MYTHS ON SUSTAINABILITY
Recycling reduces waste:
Recycling is important to ensure that the waste we generate can be properly processed, but recycling is not the main solution to the waste problem.
Remember the three R’s? Reduce, reuse, recycle. This is the order.
The most important thing, before recycling, is to reduce the consumption of plastic, paper, cardboard, aluminum and other waste. This, in the home, is done using cloth bags, glass bottles, and all sorts of things that are reusable. Many products can have a second or third and we throw them out the first time!
But this is not an excuse not to recycle! Waste that we cannot avoid generating must be recycled for proper treatment and use!
Living more sustainably involves a lot of money and sacrifices.
Living more sustainably can be less expensive than not!
Taking sustainability into account doesn’t just mean buying organic products. It means consuming and buying fewer things and reusing them more times, therefore spending less money, saving.
There are also small investments that can be made for sustainability and that end up paying off.
For example, buying a reusable bottle or buying a tap water filter may seem more expensive than buying bottled water, but it’s not!
In the long run, buying water bottles ends up being more expensive and generates more waste. In addition, opening the tap is easier than going shopping!
Your individual sustainable actions are insignificant
This is a big lie or a big excuse. If we all threw a piece of paper on the ground every time we went to the beach or walked through the woods, the world would be worse than it is now.
It’s true that big industries pollute more than many of us put together, but your small actions for a sustainable life are adding up and spreading!
If we all try to live sustainably, it will be much easier to change general customs.
And most importantly, you’re not alone! It may seem that you do your daily actions alone, but there are actually many more people who are doing the same thing as you. There are also more brands and companies, like Waly, that want to contribute to the sustainability of the planet and make change with you, together we have strength!
