HOME WATER RECYCLING SYSTEMS

Wastewater recycling systems for domestic use are not yet widespread, but it is a trend that will grow in the coming years.

Gray or residual water is that which comes from showers, bathtubs, sinks, or kitchen sinks. They can be easily recycled because they have a low content of fecal matter. They can be reused with a treatment for toilet discharges, washing patios, vehicles or other uses, but at the moment there is no domestic system to make it drinkable.

Using a reuse system is not only beneficial for you, it also means a reduction in energy consumption associated with the production, treatment and distribution of water.
To install a water recycling system, separate networks must be available. Gray water can be directed to a recycling station to be cleaned through a regeneration process.

With a biological-mechanical system to recycle water at home, up to 70,000 liters of water can be saved per year. What these gray water recycling systems do is clean the water for our domestic use (shower, bathroom and kitchen) so that it can be used for the cistern, washing clothes or watering the garden. Reuse the water for any non-potable use. The water is cleaned in compliance with European regulations on issues of hygiene in bathroom water.

Recycling system process:

1. Filtering. It is a unit that serves to retain the largest residues (hair, fibers...) and is cleaned automatically. The waste is then expelled down the drain.

2. Recycling chambers: the bio-cultures break down the dirt in the water. Every 3 or 4 hours the water is pumped again.

3. Waste drainage.

4. Sterilization, using a UV lamp, and storage in the chamber of clean and odorless water.

This is just one example of the multiple water recycling systems that you can install in your home. There are also some specific for rainwater.

The generation of water in a house of 4 people is about 600 liters / day. With the use of gray water we have recycled water for the use of the toilet for a whole year (38,000 Lts) as well as for daily irrigation of the garden. Looks like it's worth it!
