BEST AREAS OF THE COSTA BRAVA FOR PADDLE SURFING

On the Costa Brava, the fashion for paddle surfing has skyrocketed in recent years because the geography and climate of this area of Catalonia are perfect for practicing it. In addition, the landscapes are beautiful!
If you are on the Costa Brava and you want to start paddle surfing or do a good paddle, these are the best beaches:

  • L'Estartit and the Medes Islands

The town of Estartit has a very wide beach. The part closest to the town is usually very crowded, but thanks to its width there are always parts where you can be calmer. The good thing about this beach is that it is very close to the Illes Medes, some small rock islands that you will be able to reach and surround by paddle surfing! On Estartit beach, there are also many nautical schools where you can do guided tours or rent equipment.

  • Cala Montgo

Cala Montgó is a beach located near l'Escala. Starting a paddle surf route on this beach is a good idea if you want to do a somewhat long route and contemplate the abrupt profile of the Costa Brava and some of its corners. Leaving this cove you can pass near large rocks and small coves. La Caleta is a small inlet of the sea in the rocks with crystal clear water where you can take a bath. A few rows further you will find the Cova de Sal, a thousand-year-old cave that you can enter if the sea is calm.

  • Cala Bramant

Cala Bramant is a small cove that is located in Cap de Creus, the protected area in the north of the Costa Brava. It is a beautiful area and not very crowded, but the sea is usually rougher than in the south of the Costa Brava. Before planning your day of paddle surfing there, we recommend you look at the weather forecast, paying attention to the wind. Taking this into account, you can enjoy your route through Cala Bramant, a small and charming beach, and row to the town of Llançá. If you don't have paddle surf equipment, you can start in Llançà, where there are schools that rent equipment.

  • S'Agaró

If you prefer to go further south on the Costa Brava, you can try the S'Agaró area. Sant Pol beach is usually quite crowded and is not very wide, but if you go paddle surfing you will soon be out to sea and you will be able to follow the steep coast. Throughout the tour you will have impressive views. To navigate in this area it is recommended to leave early because during the day there is a lot of traffic from private boats.
